Strykk are all about non-alcoholic spirits. Taking the experience of those drinks into this more mindful drinking age. They offer NA versions of everything from rum to vodka, but I’m trying Strykk Not Gin today.

This is their take on a classic London Dry, made with a blend of botanicals designed to replicate the juniper-forward profile of traditional gin. Let’s see if they’ve managed to craft a spirited version (sorry).
Appearance
Visually, Strykk Not Gin is crystal clear. Kind of like gin. But not gin, obviously. The look reflects its intent as a straightforward gin alternative. When poured, it retains the transparency of water but carries an ever so slight viscosity that hints at its botanical base. Mixed with tonic water, it makes for a visually appealing drink that looks, yep, like a traditional gin and tonic.
Aroma
Bold juniper notes dominates the initial impression on the nose. If you like your “gin” juniper-led, then this one is for you. Fortunately, it’s not playing solo, as there are supporting roles for citrus tones, including lemon zest and orange peel, which bring a zesty freshness to the bouquet. Herbal undertones of coriander seed and thyme add depth, while a subtle floral note, reminiscent of lavender, rounds out the aromatic profile. Alcohol typically acts as a carrier for volatile compounds, enhancing their presence on the nose. As a result, Strykk Not Gin feels a touch lighter and less punchy than its alcoholic counterparts, though it still offers a satisfying experience.
Taste
On the palate, Strykk Not Gin delivers a well-balanced and nuanced flavour profile. The expected in initial hit of juniper sets the stage, offering that piney, resinous taste one often associates with alcoholic gins. This is followed by lemon and grapefruit notes providing a brightness that keeps the profile lively. As it develops, then you notice some more of the herbal aromatics, which grounds the drink without feeling super-complex. Well-balanced if a touch thin.
Mouthfeel
While it doesn’t have the warmth that alcoholic spirits provide (not a surprise), the mouthfeel of Strykk Not Gin is crisp and refreshing. That lack of significant viscosity means it provides much more a clean finish, and makes it ideal for drinking with a mixer.
Finish
The finish of Strykk Not Gin gives you gently lingering notes of juniper and citrus. A subtle herbal aftertaste adds depth, ensuring the experience doesn’t feel abrupt or flat. While the finish is well-rounded, it doesn’t have the same length or intensity as a traditional gin. However, as a more delicate and understated finish, it is very pleasant on the palate.
Pairing Suggestions
I think Strykk Not Gin works best with a simple tonic top-up and a twist of lemon or orange peel. Add plenty of ice. Equally, those botanicals could get a boost by the addition of a sprig of rosemary, or you could add a slice of cucumber if, you know, that’s your thing. Personally, I’m not someone who pairs spirits with food (give me a glass on the back porch as the sun goes down and I’m happy), but if you are, stick to light dishes like grilled fish, salads, or Mediterranean-inspired fare.
Overall Impressions of Strykk Not Gin
Strykk Not Gin is an impressive non-alcoholic spirit. Despite the name, it gives a good impression of a juniper-led gin. The accompanying botanicals are balanced well with that citrus hit, so that you get a satisfyingly gin-like taste. So, while it lacks the weight and warmth of alcoholic gins, you can tell that it’s been well crafted, and its characteristics make it perfect for a non-alcoholic G&T (or should that be an NG&T?).
